"FIFI-KATE" Homeward Bound to the USA

Posted here over the next few weeks will be the story of a band of desperados flying the Dakota N47FK, a C-47, from Lelystad Airport in Holland to Las Vegas USA - this beautiful airplane is called "Fifi-Kate" and is loved by all.
The crew are hobos off the street who have names like "Captain Darling", "Admiral of the Rear" and "The Flying Dutchman" to name a few - to all intents and purposes it will provide fascinating reading, if not a sequel to the story "Nightmare on Elm Street".
So sit back and enjoy the journey with us starting next week, the first week in May 2006, who knows were we will all end up!

  • Hope it's going well and as adventurous as we'd like it to be at our age! The room is functioning (marginally) without you, Tony - you'll be surprised at how Woodie has risen to the occasion.

  • The desperados have returned from Holland. Ably assisted by the "Schiphol Spanner", Fifi-Kate has fresh make-up,runs like a well-oiled (Pratt & Whitney) sewing machine and looks drop-dead gorgeous. In the words of the immortal Al Jolson, "California Here We Come...."

  • Visited Fifi Kate on the ramp at Wick Airport - The Security staff were very kind and escorted me out the aircraft where I met the present owner and his son, and had a short show round the interior. The aircraft looked perfect at Wick - the airfield being of WWII vintage - safe journey to her and the crew on the long hall to Vegas.

  • Congratulations on a successful journey and a very educational and enjoyable blog. There is, however, an alternate ending to the tale. In the flightsim community, Fifi-Kate changed hands to a new owner at Grand Forks, and is now flying out of Smyrna, Florida, in the livery of the virtual airline DakAir.

  • To the crew of FiFi Kate:

Good luck to you on your trip. Thanks to you our jumps in 2004 would never had been a success. As a result of your aircraft, The World War II Airborne Demonstration Team were the only Americans jumping on Holland on 17 Sept. 2004. Thanks again and happy landings
